The untapped potential for Small Hydropower (<5-10 MW) for the province of Gelderland in The Netherlands was reported in 2016. It is expected that a new outlook will be published by the end of 2019.
The 2016 potential does not include undiscovered locations with ultra low haeds and low flow rates and the usage of new innovative techniques like Darrieus and modified drag turbines. An example of these new techniques is the Oryon Watermill from the Netherlands.
In 2017 a report for the whole of the Netherlands was made which is currently being updated, it is expected that a new updated version is availbale in the beginning of 2020.
The European Small Hydropower economic potential was last published by the European Small Hydropower Association in 2011.
